Right to Work

Maryhill Integration Network is proud to be  part of the Lift the Ban coalition pushing the government in Westminster for change.

Together, we believe we can #LiftTheBan and ensure that people seeking safety in the UK have the right to work.

Lifting the ban would help people to integrate, allow people to live in dignity and fulfil their potential, address mental health issues, challenge forced labour and exploitation, and result in an economic gain for the UK.

MIN Voices group has been campaigning to Lift the Ban since 2019.  Including ‘‘Work Stations: Right to Work for Asylum Seekers and Lift the Ban event’ at the Scottish parliament, and the ‘Parliamentary drop-in – Westminster’ in 2021, and Lift the Ban Parliamentary online event 2022.

People seeking safety in the UK are not allowed to work to support themselves. Despite possessing a wealth of skills and employment experience, people seeking asylum are left to live on just £5.85 per day, struggling to support themselves and their families, while the Government wastes the talents of thousands of people.

We think that’s wrong. We believe that people who have risked everything to find safety should have the best chance of contributing to society and integrating into local communities. This means allowing people the right to work so that they can use their skills and live in dignity.

We believe that people seeking protection in Scotland and across the UK should have the right to work if their asylum claim has not been resolved within six months.

It’s time to #LiftTheBan and provide #RighttoWork

Maryhill Integration Network is a registered charity (SC037300),

our aim is to create positive social change by providing a welcoming space and opportunities for connection and collaboration across communities.

Our work depends on the support of people like you who share our belief that refugees should be welcomed into society and shown respect and kindness from the moment they arrive.

Donors help us to continue to provide the essential work we deliver which enables healing from trauma and supports people to thrive in our community.

Show your support in resisting the hostile environment and be part of our local movement of solidarity demonstrating that Glasgow welcomes refugees.

“Every city, every country, everywhere needs an organisation like MIN so that people can start a new life in the best possible way” - Ehsan (MIN group participant).
